Article summary

Once your connection is configured, you need to install The Relay Server software. Before doing so, you need to prepare a Windows-based server machine (or even a standalone PC). This machine must be able to communicate with the vendor’s HL7 server.

If not already available, this may require that you setup a VPN connection between your facilities. However, remember, one of the benefits of the ‘Relay Server’ is that it can be installed on ANY network, as long as it has an Internet connection. This means that if you don’t have a VPN setup between you and your vendor, it is possible to install the ‘Relay Server’ directly on their network (or another one that is already connected), if they will allow that.

Once the server machine is in place, you are ready to download the ‘Relay Server’ software. This is done directly from your connection within the Dr. Know Admin app.

Clicking the Installer button will download a ZIP archive of the software. Extract this archive into a folder on your server machine. Double-click the setup.bat file to install the software as a Windows Service, which allows the software to run even after Windows restarts and without requiring a user to be logged into Windows in order to run.
